Year 7:

We have three units of work in Year 7: bullying, circus and script work. Our aim is develop dramatic skills and techniques.

In the bullying unit we create a role and techniques such as ‘role on the wall’ and ‘hot-seating’ to further our understanding of character.

In the circus unit we develop physical skills and use mime and gesture to communicate meaning.

Whilst reading short scripts we learn about the conventions of script writing and students have the opportunity to interpret and perform a role using the skills they have developed throughout the year.

There are three areas for assessment: the ability to create and develop a role; performance skills and being able to reflect and evaluate acting skills.

Year 8:

In Year 8 we aim to consolidate and develop the skills acquired in Year 7 through three more units of work: pantomime, peer pressure and script work. The aim is to now create more developed characters and use a greater range of skills in performance.

Students are expected to utilise the dramatic techniques they have learned in a creative and original way and frequently use still images, sound collages, direct address and narration in their work.

There are three areas for assessment: the ability to create and develop a role; performance skills and being able to reflect and evaluate acting skills.
