What is the Course?

The Technical Award in Sports Studies is designed for learners who want an introduction to sports studies that includes a vocational and project-based work. The qualification will appeal to learners who wish to pursue a career in the sports industry or progress onto further study in this area.
This qualification focuses on an applied study of the sports sector and learners will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of working in the sector.

How will I be assessed?

The qualification has 2 assessments:

60% of the technical award (84 marks) will be assessed in an assignment that has 20 hours of lesson time associated to it. This non-exam assessment will assess the learner’s ability to effectively draw together their knowledge, understanding and skills together while apply them successfully to a given scenario.

The remaining 40% of the technical award is assessed in a written examination (80 marks and 1 hour 30 minutes) The examination has a mixture of multiple-choice, short-answer, and extended response questions.

Year 11

Additional Information

Pupils who chose this option must have a passion for PE and sport. They must also have a proven track record of excellent kit, determination and effort in PE lessons. 

What will this qualification allow me to do?

The course is suited to those pupils wishing to continue studying further qualifications such as Level 3 BTEC in Sport or enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or onto an apprenticeship. The understanding and skills gained through this qualification could be useful to progress onto an apprenticeship in the sports sector through a variety of occupations that are available within the sector, such as sports development, activity leadership or coaching.
