Theme 1 - Investigating Small Businesses
Theme 2 - Building a Business
Theme 1 covers the key issues and skills involved in enterprise. The emphasis is on starting and running small businesses. Theme 2 looks at the key issues in developing understanding of life in medium- and large- sized businesses. This incorporates external factors such as the environment and ethical behaviour, as well as marketing and people management.
Students take two written examinations. Both papers include multiple choice, calculation and extended writing based questions. Each paper is worth 90 marks, is 90 minutes in length and equates to 50 percent of the overall qualification.
This course is a hands-on and practically oriented course- the emphasis is very much on the enterprise culture., the objective being to instill an understanding and appreciation of what is involved in setting up a small business (Year 10), moving on to larger scale business issues and working within a business (Year 11).
Students do not need any previous experience in this subject to opt for it.
Business courses can help you prepare for AS/A2 Levels as well as BTEC and NVQ courses in many different subjects. They prepare you for further and higher education; there are many outstanding university business courses, providing excellent employment prospects. You will also become skilled in making decisions, being creative, solving problems, understanding finance, dealing with data, communicating and working as part of a team. A GCSE Business course could lead to work in a business-related profession such as accountancy, law, marketing or the leisure and tourism industry.
