Hanley Castle Students receive offers from Cambridge

Two Hanley Castle Sixth Form students are celebrating receiving offers from Cambridge University: Will Gilchrist to study Economics at Girton College, and Daisy Haynes to study Classics at Corpus Christi College. It marks a successful year for the school, with over 110 offers being received from the prestigious Russell Group universities. However, the full range of offers include Isobelle Hill with an unconditional to study Fashion Buying and Brand Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and Elliot Cresswell with an unconditional place at Bournemouth University to study Physiotherapy. In addition, offers have come in subject areas as diverse as Medicine, Creative Writing, Mechatronics and Robotic Systems, Neuroscience, Psychology, Sport Journalism and Modern Languages.
The Oxford and Cambridge process is a rigorous and demanding one, involving extensive preparation by both the students and staff at the school. The Sixth Form has an established programme in place to support those students applying to these universities. All applicants to Oxford and Cambridge have attended Open Days, received tailored support with their personal statements and UCAS applications, attended HE+ courses to introduce them to Higher Education-style lectures, undergone mock interviews, entrance test practice and, finally, attended the real interview at the Universities.
Will said about receiving his offer, ‘I’m really happy to have gained an offer but I know I need to work hard to get the grades.’ Daisy remarked, ‘I’m thrilled to have the chance to attend such a prestigious university.”
Matthew Scanlan, Head of Sixth Form said, ‘I’m delighted for Will and Daisy, and it’s a testament to their hard work and commitment. I know they will shine.” Commenting on wider student success, he said, ‘It’s wonderful to have students succeeding in lots of disciplines and taking the first steps towards pursuing careers in many different areas. I’m extremely happy that Hanley has been able to support and nurture a wide range of aspirations.”
