GCSE success 2024

Students at Hanley Castle High School are celebrating another fantastic set of GCSE results this year with well over a fifth of all passes awarded at the top grades 7, 8 or 9.

In English and English literature over four fifths of students achieved grade four or higher, with 75% of students gaining passes in both English and mathematics and two or more good GCSEs in science. Nearly 40% of students achieved a pass in the rigorous English Baccalaureate.

There were some remarkable individual successes with a number of students achieving top grades across all subjects. Marcus Charman led the way with an incredible ten grade 9s!

Hot on Marcus’s heels were Charlie Clements with eight grade 9s and two grade 8s, Luc Marchant with seven grade 9s and three grade 8s, Florence Findlater with seven grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7, and Edward White with six grade 9s and four grade 8s.

Of course, there were many more success stories and the results were very strong across a number of subjects with almost half of all students gained a top grade (7-9) in at least one subject.

Headteacher Mark Stow commented:
"We are absolutely thrilled for our students; they have worked so hard and deserve this chance to celebrate their successes. Despite the disruption in their early years at Hanley during the pandemic, they have shown resilience and determination to achieve some excellent qualifications, and develop into wonderful young adults. We are delighted that so many have chosen to stay with us for their post-16 studies, but we are proud of all of our students and can’t wait to see how they flourish as they take their next steps”.
