GCSE results 2020

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every Hanley Castle student on their excellent GCSE results. Our disappointment as a school is being unable to provide these results to our students in person and recognise and celebrate their achievements in the normal way.

This year more than ever these grades reflect the consistency and commitment shown throughout the duration of GCSE courses, with school assessed grades being adopted by the exam boards. However, the rigorous procedures put in place by Ofqual were meticulously followed, and even without the final examination our students can have confidence that these grades were earned and deserved without artificial inflation.

There were some remarkable individual successes with a multitude of both boys and girls achieving top grades across all subjects. Oli Cooke led the way, sweeping the board with a grade 9 in each of his ten GCSEs.

Hot on Oli’s heels were a number of students with very impressive grades. They include Reuben Vickers with eight grade 9s and two grade 8s, Joseph Turton with six grade 9s, three grade 8s and a grade 7, Will Emerick with five grade 9s, two grade 8s and three grade 7s, Caitlin Davis with four grade 9s and four grade 8s and a grade 7 and Rebecca Palmer with four grade 9s, two grade 8s and three grade 7s.

Schools eagerly await BTEC results following yesterday’s announcement into a review of the grades initially awarded. We shall forward these to students as soon as possible, along with results from other vocational qualifications.

We are now looking forward to welcoming the majority of this wonderful cohort of young people back to our sixth form to commence the next exciting stage in their education. They have already engaged impressively in an extensive bridging programme, which will enable them to make the best possible start to their A-level and BTEC studies.

Finally, we would like to remind all of our students that the Key Stage 4 team, the sixth form team and other staff at Hanley Castle will continue to be available for any student who needs help, support or advice in the coming weeks.

A limited number of places remain available for some sixth form courses. Please contact Mr Sam Cook, Assistant Headteacher / Head of Sixth Form as quickly as possible for further details:
