Two new teams of Hanley CyberFirst Girls have been battling it out over the last week as part of the CyberFirst Girls Challenge. This is run by the National Cyber Security Centre and is an initiative to promote an interest amongst girls in cyber security, as women make up only 11% of the global cyber workforce.
The Hanley Phoenix team - Scarlett Burton, Jenny Widdowson, Amee Hall and Ruby Fraser just beat the Titans - Louise Turton, Jess Tomkinson, Willow Haynes and Beth Hallam in a week-long competition to solve a variety of problems surrounding cryptography, networking, logic and coding; all skills that cyber security professionals would employ. The teams had no prior experience and had to learn all of the skills from scratch. They worked brilliantly together, giving up lots of their free time and really enjoyed the experience.
We are now waiting to hear if the Phoenix Team have made it through to the next round.
